Multiple people have filed or are planning to file lawsuits against former North Charleston Police Department Officer Michael Slager after video released Tuesday showed him shooting and killing a black man named Walter Scott while Scott ran away.

Scott's family has said they will file a civil rights violation lawsuit against Slager, who is white and has since been fired, arrested and charged with murder. They have also filed a wrongful death suit. Slager's bullets hit Scott at least three times in the back.

Slager is now also being sued by another black man named Garnett Wilson, according to The Post and Courier.

Wilson's narrative will be familiar to those who have watched the video of Slager shooting Scott in the back. The man alleges that Slager also shot him in the back, but with a taser. Wilson says Slager tasered him while he was already pinned to the ground by other officers who were preparing to handcuff him.

North Charleston police officer Clarence Habersham, the second officer to appear in the video of Scott's killing, is also being sued. Habersham, who is black, walked up after Scott was already on the ground and crouched over Scott's body as if to examine him. Though some police reports about the shooting said Habersham performed CPR on Scott, Habersham's own report said no such thing.

A black man named Sheldon Williams is suing Habersham and four other officers for breaking bones in his face while he was already handcuffed on the ground, according to The Guardian.

Police have denied any wrongdoing. Williams was arrested on a warrant that dated back to an armed robbery charge from 2011.
