The Super Bowl XLIX halftime antics of Left Shark left an indelible mark on our culture. Now the hapless creature is set to be immortalized in World of Warcraft.

You read that right. Left Shark enters Blizzard's massively multiplayer fantasy universe as a collectible battle pet -- as hard as it is to think of Left Shark doing battle with anyone.

The new pet was discovered (via Wowhead) in the latest update to an in-development patch. Blizzard tests out upcoming changes to the game on a special "public test realm" server, to see how they perform in a live environment.

As a battle pet, Left Shark can be summoned to face off against pets belonging to other players. It's got a number of special abilities to rely on in combat, including the Rain Dance and Dazzling Dance, both of which provide boosts to teammates. Which makes a whole lot of sense.

There's no word from Blizzard as to when the next WoW patch is coming out, or why Left Shark is part of it. Do we really have to ask, though?
