That's where Legacy Locker comes in and helps you protect your email, social networking, virtual world, and photo and video assets, even when you're no longer here to appreciate them.

As morbid as that may sound, Legacy Locker, which launches today, is entering a virtual graveyard of sorts to help you pass on your prized digital assets after you've passed on. The site hopes to make the estate planning process — in regards to your valuable online content — a simple one, so you can rest assured that everything of digital importance is safe for all of eternity.

Consumers and estate planners can turn to Legacy Locker to designate verifiers (who can decline the request) to confirm or deny a untimely demise and manage your digital content.

Once you've created an account, you'll want to add your digital assets to your locker, add content beneficiaries, and link assets to specific beneficiaries. To create digital assets within Legacy Locker, you'll need to manually add online accounts and specify the asset type, website, username, and password, so it's not as simple as connecting each of your online accounts with a click or two. Of course, you can also leave notes regarding each account, just in case your friends and family aren't too sure what to do with all of your online media.

Even though we hope that none of us actually need a site like Legacy Locker, the reality is that prolific online content creators, videographers, photographers, and entrepreneurs would be wise to protect themselves. Will you be securely locking away your digital asserts for posterity? Let us know in the comments.
