Lenovo's X1 Carbon Ultrabook Gets the Touchscreen Treatment

Lenovo has launched a touchscreen variant of its business-oriented ThinkPad X1 Carbon Ultrabook, dubbed the X1 Carbon Touch.

Besides the most obvious change, the touchscreen, the new Windows 8 device is almost the same as its predecessor -- a 14-inch, 1,600 x 900 pixel screen, 3G, an Ivy Bridge chipset, SSD and 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM are all snugged inside a carbon fiber chassis.

The main difference is in the price, which starts at $1,399 for the X1 Carbon Touch. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon originally also cost that amount, but has since dropped to $1,249.

Another difference is the thinness and weight. The touchscreen variant is at 0.4 pounds heavier and 2.8 mm thicker than the 3-pound, 18 mm original. This shouldn't worry you too much. Even with the extra weight, the X1 Carbon Touch is still among the world's lightest 14'' Ultrabooks.

As far as battery life is concerned, Lenovo claims the X1 Carbon Touch will endure a full 8 hours between recharges.
