In 1980, the year after the first Star Trek film premiered in theaters, actor Leonard Nimoy starred in the TV movie Seizure: The Story of Kathy Morris. The movie was based on the true story of a young opera singer who suffered a seizure during rehearsal and was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. Nimoy played the role of Dr. Richard Connought, the brash and brilliant brain surgeon who has to act quickly when Morris’ brain swells up unexpectedly during surgery. The 90-minute movie follows the complications that arise and Morris’ courage in overcoming them. Her perseverance inspires Nimoy’s character to give his failing marriage another shot. Sadly, the true story did not allow for Nimoy to fix his patient’s brain with a Vulcan mind meld.
