Quick Pitch: A platform for emerging fashion designers to show and sell their wares during New York Fashion Week.

Genius Idea: Cheryl Maleh wants two things to happen during New York Fashion Week in September:

1) She wants emerging New York designers to have the opportunity to host their own fashion shows affordably.

2) She wants to open up more runway shows to the public.

The fashion industry veteran and Lower East Side resident is using crowdsource funding platform Kickstarter to raise $8,500 for the initiative, which will invite local designers to apply to be apart of the program. If selected, designers will be provided with all they need to host a show, including space, models and logistics help.

In addition, the space used for the shows will act as a storefront during the day, enabling the public to purchase items straight off the runway.

We've seen similar initiatives from individual designers in the past, and now we're glad to see this come to the Lower East Side on a larger scale.

L.E.S Runway will run throughout the month of September, with a different designer or group of designers featured each night, and shows throughout the weekend.

The project has received more than $4,300 from 75 backers thus far. To learn more, check out the video below.
