David Letterman devotees still in denial about the iconic television host's retirement should move onto -- and quickly cycle out of -- the anger phase of grieving.

Just a week after Letterman's final broadcast, his Late Show marquee sign was removed from the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway, officially marking the end of an era.

The New York Daily News reports that the sign was disassembled and taken down early Thursday morning.

Sentimental Letterman fans gathered around the theater last Wednesday to snap pictures of the sign before the show's final broadcast.

Other Letterman enthusiasts and eBay opportunists went dumpster diving for model bridges after CBS tossed Letterman's set, but the whereabouts of the sign are unknown. The answer could be sinister -- is Jay Leno having it shipped to a storage unit where he keeps The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien memorabilia?
