Lexus unveiled a "real, rideable" hoverboard on Wednesday -- a skateboard that levitates above the ground, just like in the legendary Robert Zemeckis movie Back to the Future Part II. Such a hoverboard would be likely to rely on magnetism, which implies it had to be ridden above a metal surface, but the surface in Lexus' short promo video appeared to be concrete.

Now, Spanish website El Patín (found via The Verge) has uncovered the location of the skatepark used in the video -- in Cubelles, a village near Barcelona.

The construction of the park, according to El Patín, began about a month ago, and the site is guarded 24 hours a day. The surface is indeed metallic, but covered with very thin wooden planks. The hoverboard itself is using magnets that must be cooled with liquid nitrogen, hence the smoke coming out of the board, which is visible in the video.

When the skatepark is finished, it will likely be used to film a full ad which might include skateboarder Ross McGouran. Hopefully, Lexus will open it to the public afterwards; creating a fully functional hoverboard and then letting only one person ride it would be pretty cruel.
