Aside from its slender frame, the big standout feature of the Optimus Black is its NOVA display. LG claims that this display is designed to be "the brightest, clearest and most readable" mobile screen. The display purportedly works well both indoors and under strong sunlight.

Beyond being bright (the NOVA screen sports 700 nits of brightness), the screen is supposed to consume 50% less power during general indoor use, as compared to a conventional LCD. LG says that AMOLED screens consume twice as much power as the NOVA display when displaying a white screen.

The Optimus Black has a very sleek profile. With a depth of 9.2 mm, tapering down to a scant 6.0 mm, the phone also manages to pack a 1500 mAh battery into just 109 grams. By comparison, the iPhone 4 is just a hair wider at 9.3 mm and it weighs 137 grams.

The phone also supports Wi-Fi Direct -- a technology that is supposed to allow faster data transfer between mobile devices -- and it has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The LG Optimus Black will ship with Android 2.2 Froyo with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capability. LG plans on rolling the Optimus Black out globally in the first half of 2011.

All we can say is, wow. Then, "bright, light, and absolutely packed with features." Well played, LG.
