You'd be surprised at how far back the history of LGBT superheroes goes.
There has been a lot of positive response to recent confirmations of popular Marvel and DC Comics characters like Ice Man and and Catwoman coming out of the closet, and they're only scratching the surface of equal representation in comic books.
Surprisingly, comic books have had a slightly longer history of featuring gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender heroes and their loyal sidekicks than just in the last few years.
