LibSyn Issues Major Updates to Podcast Stats Engine

LibSyn, the podcast hosting arm of Wizzard Media, has announced an update to its statistics package to be released to the general public as of Monday. A number of issues and features were addressed in this release.

The issues include undercounted download numbers affecting statistics going back nine months, GUI display time improvements, greater granularity in tracking user agents (i.e., Zune, AppleTV, iPod, etc), and better data trending and statistical breakdown on a per episode basis.

The irregularities in the statistics engine have been long noted in the podcasting community, and grumbles about LibSyn's accuracy can be found in just about any podcasting forum you look in. Wizzard Media's CEO Chris Spencer pointed out on a recent episode of Digital Podcast that the data irregularities had to do strictly with the proper display of the statistical information, not the recording of that data (and thus, payouts were not ever adversely affected by these problems).
