Although the iPhone 5 hit stores early this morning, those who waited in line were unable to purchase an adapter to go with the device's new Lightning connector.

Apple told Mashable that adapters -- which will allow users to connect the new charger to accessories that support the previous one -- aren't yet in stores, but should be rolled out "soon." No specifics were given on when they might be made available.

Unlike previous chargers, the new Lightning is an eight-pin, all-digital connector. It's said to be more durable and 80% smaller than before. However, because many accessory companies and businesses such as hotels and gyms are outfitted to support Apple's previous 30-pin connector, the company will be selling an adapter for $29.
