An alleged shooting at rapper Lil Wayne's Miami Beach home, which sent officers rushing to the scene to investigate a phoned-in report claiming four people had been shot, has been classified as a swatting; this means false information attracted an emergency response.

The Wednesday phone call was a hoax, Miami Beach Police Department confirmed on Twitter. It wrote, "MBPD handles all calls of this nature in a serious manner," and ended the tweet with "#Swatting" because authorities in 2015 are so into hashtags.

Lil Wayne, who wasn't home during the swatting, responded with three simple words:

Prank kall mane— Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) March 11, 2015

Earlier in the day, before police announced it was a hoax, Lil Wayne's record label Young Money assured everyone that the 32-year-old rapper was unharmed:

Wayne is okay. Wasn't home during alleged events.— Young Money (@YoungMoneySite) March 11, 2015

MBPD spokesperson Det. Vivian Hernandez told Mashable that she had "just arrived" on scene at Lil Wayne's residence (94 Lagorce Circle) to gather information at 2:32 p.m. ET, before the department confirmed it was a hoax at 2:55 p.m. ET.
