Australian Federal Police are in hot water after they were involved in a prank gone wrong with British pop star Lily Allen.

As members of the police force escorted Allen through the Gold Coast Airport in Queensland, Australia, they posed for a photo in which Allen appeared to be under arrest.

The snap, which showed the officers clearly breaking standard protocol by placing open handcuffs on Allen's hands, was posted on her Instagram account. The photo made its way to her five million followers through various social media channels with the caption "#uhoh". The image was later removed.

An Australian Federal Police spokesperson told Mashable the officers would be subject to an internal investigation.

"At her request, the members involved placed open handcuffs on Ms. Allen for a photo opportunity," the spokesperson said. "It appears the members involved were caught up in the moment and standard protocols were breached. This matter is now subject to internal processes."

Allen has been in the country for a two-week tour, with ten performances during her hectic schedule. She headlined the festival Splendour in the Grass on Sunday in Byron Bay not long after the controversial photo was taken.
