While the Internet is a beautiful thing, it can also serve as an immortal reminder of our social media screw-ups — especially if you happen to be a celebrity.

In an act of well-intentioned cultural confusion, actress Lindsay Lohan shared an Instagram photo on April 21 that appeared to feature the phrase "You're beautiful" in Arabic.

Unfortunately, as many of Lohan's followers were quick to point out, the phrase didn't actually translate as a compliment ...

Oh nooooo nooo Lindsay Lohan this means "you're stupid" in Arabic pic.twitter.com/sMGxbUzWqK— Rawan (@itsRawanE) April 21, 2015

... in actuality, the phrase means "You're a donkey."

HAHAHAHAHAHA. The literal meaning is: "You're a donkey". #LohanFail https://t.co/6PJpDNyDU9— Hashem Said (@hash_said) April 21, 2015

Perhaps Lindsay just really wanted to philosophically remind us all that being beautiful and being an ass are not mutually exclusive?

Thanks for the uplifting wisdom, Lindsay.

UPDATE, April 21, 7:34 p.m. ET: Lohan removed the photo from her Instagram page.
