Livestation: Microsoft Attacks Joost

Everyone is cloning Joost these days, and Microsoft is the latest to step up. Livestation, a product from Microsoft Research, streams live TV over P2P, using Silverlight to play the media on your computer. Currently in beta, it is headed for a full launch in October. The difference between Livestation and Joost? Livestation is literally live broadcast TV.

Once fully launched, Livestation could be the "killer app" for Silverlight, Microsoft's Flash rival. The video below shows Livestation in action, and you can sign up on the site to become an early tester. It's currently PC-only, but a Mac version is on the way and it will eventually work on mobile devices too. We await to see whether other big names will launch Joost rivals, or go the acquisition route.
