UPDATE: Livestream says the Android App is now available for download on Monday (Oct. 29).
Livestream is set to update its Android app with live video broadcasting capabilities on Tuesday, Mashable has learned exclusively.
Called Livestream for Producers, the app's latest version includes a live video streaming option and live blogging, by posting real-time text, photos and video clips, said Livestream CEO Max Haot. Previous versions offered in Google Play did not include live video.
"Android users have been begging for us to add live video, but also for a high quality option for live video on Android," he told Mashable in an email. "The Android live broadcasting option is ideal to cover any event when you don't have the time, the equipment or the budget to cover it with traditional cameras."
The live streaming video platform offers its app for free to both Android and iOS users. Livestream for Producers works on 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks.
In light of Hurricane Sandy, Livestream has also launched "Sandycam," which broadcasts live camera footage caught from the rooftop of its New York City headquarters, spokeswoman Christina DiRusso told Mashable. In addition, a company Jeep is sharing live coverage from the city's streets, DiRusso added. With its app, Livestream is encouraging users to submit photos and videos of the hurricane to be featured on its live blog.
