Today, Livestream is adding a new feature to its live Internet video lineup: Livestream for iPhone. The new free service will allow producers to broadcast their livestreams to iPhone and iPod touch users over WiFi or 3G connections.

Users can go to http://iphone.livestream.com in Mobile Safari to browse channels and tune into livestreams. Currently Livestream is streaming the NewTeeVee Live conference from San Francisco.

Other Internet video services like Ustream have offered iPhone applications for streaming content, but Livestream.com might just have the first in-browser live video experience for the iPhone. Livestream is utilizing the H.264 HTTP live streaming service that is built into Apple's QuickTime to provide on-the-fly encoding and transmitting to mobile devices.

Users who want to be able to broadcast to to an iPhone or iPod touch just need to use Livestream's Procaster software and set the quality to "iPhone 3G" before going live.
