The name choice of Mogulus, however, has always been perplexing and doesn't really describe Mogulus's live video technology. So the live video company has taken a dramatic step by changing its look, its name, and even its domain. Mogulus is now Livestream.com.
Livestream has the same functionality as it had with Mogulus, but with a new look. The new interface is cleaner and pushes its promotional tools with Twitter. All of the old Mogulus features, such as its video player, the downloadable Procaster, and Pro accounts. There is also a heavy emphasis on starting a channel quickly and simply. In some ways, it reflects the changes Ustream recently made to its website.
Yet while this change is mostly cosmetic, we cannot overlook the implications. Livestream is a brand name far more synonymous with web video than Mogulus, and more descriptive to boot. While Mogulus has had some steady growth (240% in the last year according to compete), it still doesn't compare with the growth of some of its competitors.
This rebranding move did not come cheap, however. It's reported that the company paid around $100,000 for the domain. Could the money have been put to better use? Possibly, but moving away from the Mogulus name could be worth far more.
