LONDON -- Uber is not too popular with cabbies in the city; several massive protests in recent months and years have made that abundantly clear.

Licensed black cab drivers have been complaining for some time about the car-hailing app, insisting that it's eroded their business and threatens their future.

One driver, though, has taken his loathing for Uber to the next level, and changed his number plate to H8 UBR.

Martin Eley added the new plates to his car after it passed a test and posted a photo to Instagram. "The cab passed its first overhaul today an I treated myself to a personal reg," he said, with an emoji smile.

Eley has been driving the streets of London for seven years, following in the footsteps of his father, and has been dismayed at the march of Uber across the city.

“They’ve come into the market and moved the goalposts,” he told Buzzfeed. “We had competition from minicab firms for a long time but with Uber they’ve changed the rules to suit them, which isn’t a level playing field. They’ve made it unfair.”

He said the plate, which popped into his head while he was browsing the DVLA website, has caused nothing but smiles so far.
