Lookabee has also launched a platform for teachers to create their own Facebook applications to keep in touch with students. This pilot program is being spearheaded by James Levy, a former developer for Box.net. The applications will enable teachers to hand out homework assignments, class notes, etc. It's built off the Box.net file-sharing system, which is an easy way for teachers to provide documents that can be downloaded by students.

The network within Facebook allows discussions and questions to be sent back and forth between students and teachers as well. Each Facebook application is custom made for the teacher, and follows the lead of other application developers like Widgetbox and Clearspring , though Lookabee's niche approach makes it less likely to need additional tools like advertising options and metrics reports.
