When you hear the word "lumberjack," the first thing to come to mind probably isn't "fancy artisanal cake." Maybe it's axes or wood.
But Elizabeth Marek, a Portland, Oregon-based baker who owns the Artisan Cake Company, fused the two worlds to create a glorious lumberjack cake for online tutorial site Sugar Geek Show.
While Marek has been a cake decorator for eight years, she only recently switched to teaching and making online tutorials. (Other cool tutorials on the site a Harry Potter wedding cake, a glowing rocket ship cake and a giant sushi cake.)
"The plaid cake was something I just casually wondered if I could do, so I did a practice cake," Marek told Mashable. "I'm obsessed with everything plaid right now."
From the sharp axes to the woody exterior, every part of the cake is 100% edible. And Marek is confident that even the most amateur baker can handle it.
"As long as you can bake a box mix and you have access to a 9" and 8" cake pan and chocolate," Marek told Mashable.
The axe itself, Marek cautioned, takes a little more skill.
"If you want to make the axe then you will need modeling chocolate and fondant," the baker said.
