Fashion Designer L'Wren Scott Found Dead

L'Wren Scott, fashion designer and longtime girlfriend of musician Mick Jagger, was found dead in her New York City apartment Monday of an apparent suicide, according to multiple reports. She was 49.

Scott's body was discovered by her assistant at 10:02 a.m. ET. She was hanging from a scarf attached to a doorknob, the AP reported. The wire service said no suicide note was found, and that there was no sign of foul play. A medical examiner has yet to confirm the cause of death.

The onetime model dated Jagger, frontman of the iconic rock band Rolling Stones, since 2001. She was was born and raised in Utah.

Scott also owned her own eponymous fashion line, which she began in 2006. She recently launched a limited-edition collection with the clothing company Banana Republic.

Scott's label was popular among celebrities, many of whom mourned her loss on Twitter.

UPDATE, March 18, 2:02 p.m. Mick Jagger posted a comment to his Facebook commenting on the death of his longtime girlfriend L'Wren Scott. The comment, posted at 12 p.m. EST Tuesday, said he was "still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way."

The Facebook comment also included a picture of Scott. Jagger signed it "I will never forget her."
