LOS ANGELES -- A Mad Men spinoff series is not an outlandish idea -- this is AMC, after all, the network that dared order up Better Call Saul after Breaking Bad came to a definitive conclusion.

The question then becomes: Which Mad Men character should get the Saul treatment?

Mashable was on the red carpet for Wednesday night's premiere of the first episode from the final season of Mad Men, an affair so swanky that the invitation to the "Black & Red Ball" -- printed on hard-stock cardboard and mailed -- included a black and red pocket square, which many attendees put to good use.

The black-tie screening and afterparty beneath the giant chandeliers of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion was attended by most of the cast and crew of Mad Men (and much of the cast and crew of Saul -- read into that what you like).

We asked the red-carpet walkers which character they'd like to see get a spinoff. Watch their candid answers below.

Jon Hamm

The man behind Don Draper is also a Mad Men producer, with 33 episodes to his credit (including one as director), so he knows a little something about who would make a good show. His answer might surprise you:

Jon Hamm wants a Pete Campbell spinoff. "Just imagine the wigs." #MadMen A video posted by NotoriousJLD (@notoriousjld) on Mar 25, 2015 at 7:22pm PDT

___

Chris Hardwick

The @midight host and Nerdist impresario isn't starring in an AMC drama, but he agreed with Hamm. That should count for something.

Chris Hardwicke wants a Pete Campbell spinoff as a "douchey teenager." #MadMen A video posted by NotoriousJLD (@notoriousjld) on Mar 25, 2015 at 7:11pm PDT

We can think of someone who'd be happy with those choices ...

... but the vote was by no means unanimous.

Mason Vale Cotton

The current Bobby Draper (there have been a four, but Cotton has squatter's rights) wasn't totally familiar with the concept of a "spinoff" (he's 12, give him a break) but once we explained it to him he did not hesitate. He knew exactly who he'd want to watch a show about:

___

Patrick Fabian

Since we're talking about a Better Call Saul-style spinoff, we figured it would be a good idea to hear from a star of that show.

Fabian is 49, but he and Cotton have similar taste:

___

Kiernan Shipka

Of course, the correct answer here is "Sally Draper."

Watching that poor kid unravel years of traumatic childhood (much of it in therapy, Sopranos-style) would be compelling TV all by itself, and the opportunities for filling in the holes in Don Draper lore are boundless.

Besides, any drama about a teenager crossing into adulthood at the dawn of the 1970s sounds like appointment TV.

Still, Shipka seems the kind of swell kid who would never nominate herself for something like that. Instead, she came up with the only other correct answer to our question:

Kiernan Shipka gives the right answer: Peggy spinoff. A video posted by NotoriousJLD (@notoriousjld) on Mar 25, 2015 at 7:40pm PDT
