MakerBot Opening Bigger Factory, Hiring More Employees

3D-printing company MakerBot announced Monday it's opening a new factory in Brooklyn, N.Y., and is hiring more than 50 new employees in the coming months.

MakerBot, which is already based in Brooklyn, will open its new 50,000 square foot Sunset Park factory Friday. The new facility will help meet the growing demand for more devices, according to the company. MakerBot already has 100 employees, with many building MakerBot desktop 3D printers.

From guitars to prosthetic limbs, the 3D-printing industry and its surrounding buzz has grown considerably over the past few years. MakerBot was founded in 2009 and set out to make 3D printing more accessible. In an interview with Mashable late last year, the company said its goals are high: “We’re out to change the world, to fuel the next industrial revolution."
