The militants who were allegedly involved in the shooting of teenage activist Malala Yousafzai have been arrested, according to Pakistani officials.

Pakistani Army spokesman Asim Bajwa said Friday during a news conference that authorities had arrested 10 members of the extremist group known as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) suspected of shooting Yousafzai in 2012, following her prominent activism in favor of girls' education in Pakistan.

Yousafzai, who is now 17 years old, was shot in the head in October 2012. She eventually recovered and went on to be nominated for the Nobel peace prize.

Bajwa said the plan to kill her came from Maulana Fazlullah, the current leader of the TTP.
