One man just became eligible for the Most Bizarre Interview of the Year.

Austin resident Kerry Packer was driving his car in one of the recent torrential downpours that have been rampant in central Texas when his car was swept up in the rising water. Packer managed to evacuate from the vehicle, which was being pulled by the current, and climbed up a tree to await rescue. It was from this tree that Packer called Austin news station KVUE, who were totally unaware that Packer was still stuck in the tree.

The anchors talked to Packer for almost a minute before they realized that their interview subject was not, in fact, on dry land.

"Wait, wait — you're still in the TREE?"

Packer, to his credit, took the whole thing like a champ. “It’s a little cold, but I did Boy Scouts for 20 years, so I know how to keep my energy up and keep warm, so I’m doing fine.”
