A man in a motorized wheelchair was saved by two passers-by, after he fell off a subway platform in Washington, D.C, according to local reports.

The 54-year-old man drove his wheelchair off the platform and onto the tracks at the U Street station Tuesday, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel confirmed to D.C.-based television station WUSA9. The wheelchair landed on top of him.

Two people, whose identities are unknown at this point, immediately came to the man's aid and jumped down off the platform to rescue him. He suffered minor injuries from the incident.

Video of the incident, below, shows that it only took seconds before the two passers-by decided to help the man, risking their own lives in the process.

It is not known why the man drove off the platform.
