The scourge of the subways isn't just ruining your commute, it's also ruining your trip to the museum.

The phenomenon known as manspreading seems to have been sweeping our train rides for several years, but its origins actually go back way before public transit, social media or even electricity.

If you look at the art world, you'll discover that men have been needing to spread as early as the Renaissance -- and it wasn't even just for the common commuter. Scholars, musicians and even kings have been known to showing off his unnecessarily wide gait.
