MapQuest Maps Get Green

MapQuest has added some nice improvements to its gas prices mapping tool, one of which is a little bit green, and most of which are just plain helpful, especially considering the outrageous cost of gas these days. There's now an alternative fuels option that gets its data from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, so you'll see a listing of all locations that offer alternative fuels, from BioDiesel to E85 Ethanol, as well as electric charging stations.

Some of the other upgrades include a gas price calculator for your road trip, browsing options by state and city, and the ability to view the gas prices plotted on a regular map or on a satellite image. Lastly, MapQuest has put an expiration on gas price data, so anything that's 48 hours or older won't clog up your search results. With the fluctuation of gas prices, I think this is a pretty important tweak to its gas map and search system.

Hopefully the new upgrades will be incorporated into MapQuest's syndicated tools on services like AOL mobile.
