Not too long ago we brought you word of MapQuest’s delivery of a number of open APIs that essentially delivered developer access to the core aspects of the AOL-owned online mapping service that were long made unavailable. A number of you took quite well to the news.

Well, MapQuest is getting another headline today, this time for its release of a road traffic information overlay. More specifically, real-time traffic info, explains Brad Linder of DownloadSquad.

Sure, nearly all who’ve used Google Maps and Yahoo Maps for many months now to chart your commutes or various other travels have been privy to the presence of traffic data. But hey, we’ve gotta give kudos to the guys and gals at MapQuest for climbing full kit-and-kaboodle into the mainstream, as it were, even if it does so quite belatedly.
