March Madness: Facebook's Big Winners So Far

The first weekend of March Madness is behind us now, with Sweet 16 games tipping off Thursday and Friday, and the Final Four a little more than one week away.

So far, the on-court results speak for themselves, but which teams and players made the biggest waves on social media? Data provided by Facebook sheds some light.

Endlessly entertaining Ole Miss bad boy Marshall Henderson was a media darling early on, but the most popular player on the world's most popular social network might surprise you. It's Aaron Craft, a player whose on-court demeanor is the polar opposite of Henderson's, but who also happens to helm what might be college basketball's strongest team.

Craft drilled a three-pointer with less than a second remaining to propel his Ohio State squad to a thrilling second-round win over Iowa State on Sunday. Around that same time, mentions of Craft on Facebook spiked by a whopping 181,000%. Here's the full list of Facebook's most popular players through March Madness' first weekend:

Aaron Craft, Ohio State

Marshall Henderson, Ole Miss

Khalif Wyatt, Temple

Sherwood Brown, FGCU

Jeff Withey, Kansas

Brett Comer, FGCU

Ramon Galloway, La Salle

Victor Oladipo, Indiana

Florida Gulf Coast is the tournament's buzziest remaining team -- that's no surprise at all, considering the tiny school became the first 15-seed to ever reach the tourney's second weekend. Here are the Sweet 16's top ten teams, ranked according to Facebook buzz:
