Saying goodbye to a loved one is one of the hardest experiences life throws, and losing a pet is no exception.

When 23-year-old photographer Maria Sharp saw that the days with her beloved pup were numbered, she decided to create a portrait session so that she could always remember her dog Chubby.

"We got her from the pound when I was seven years old," Sharp wrote on her blog. "I just wanted someone to enjoy life with."

"I know how important it is to preserve memories and time with loved ones, and this shouldn't just apply to humans," Sharp told Mashable.

In order to capture her special moment with Chubby, Sharp enlisted the help of a fellow photographer and dog lover, Suzanne Price.

The result is a heartfelt and beautiful timepiece that any pet owner or animal lover can relate to.

Unfortunately, Chubby passed away shortly after these photos were taken. But Sharp can look back fondly on a bond that was so strong, words could never describe accurately.

Sharp also documented more of her experience with Chubby in a blog post on her website.

"Chubby isn’t just a dog. She’s my longest and best friend," she writes.

Rest in peace, Chubby. You were obviously loved.
