This is worse than discovering the truth about Santa (that he's diabetic, of course).

Mariah Carey, once considered an angel among us, a heavenly voice sent to earth to save our souls, the diva among auto-tuned pop stars -- has fallen from grace following a shaky performance at Wednesday's annual Rockefeller Tree Lighting ceremony.

Carey, 44, performed her classic Christmas anthem "All I Want for Christmas is You," but instead of slaying the high notes, as per usual, her voice could barely stay in key.

Here's a closer look:

According to TMZ, Carey was supposed to pre-tape her performance but blew it off due to a call about property settlements with a divorce lawyer (Carey is divorcing Nick Cannon). She supposedly arrived three hours late, after fans waited in the cold, but NBC execs were over it and sent her home.

Carey later apologized on Twitter for missing the performance:

Last night's situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you.— Mariah Carey #MC20 (@MariahCarey) December 3, 2014

It seems NBC execs accepted the apology and granted Carey a chance to redeem herself during the live show on Wednesday. Carey has performed at the tree lighting for the past several years.

TMZ isolated Carey's vocals from Wednesday night, and it's horrifying. It's akin to watching someone light each of your Christmas presents and gingerbread houses on fire.

Here is Carey's original music video from 1994, which was just as joyful and spectacular as ever.
