Yahoo Paid Marissa Mayer $36.6 Million in 2012

Convincing someone like Marissa Mayer to take charge of Yahoo certainly doesn't come cheap.

Mayer received $36.6 million in compensation from Yahoo in 2012 after joining as CEO of the company in July, according to a proxy statement filed on Thursday. The vast majority of that -- $35 million -- was from stock awards that will vest by 2017. She also received a $1.2 million bonus and a base salary of $454,862 for the half a year that she worked in 2012.

While that might sound like a lot, Mayer was not actually the highest paid executive at Yahoo in 2012. Henrique de Castro, another former Googler that Yahoo poached last year to be COO, received more than $39 million in compensation in 2012.

Yahoo has certainly profited from having Mayer in charge. As the company points out in the proxy, Yahoo's stock increased by nearly 50% between July and the beginning of April, which created $6.8 billion in additional value for shareholders.
