Noted Laker hater, outspoken tweeter, entrepreneurial icon and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says there's one fan base you don't want to mess with on Twitter.

Cuban told The Dallas Morning News this weekend that Lakers fans are so unruly online, in fact, that he's giving his time-honored tradition of antagonizing the team a break.

“I’ve said enough about the Lakers,” he told the paper. “Let’s just say, when you say something bad about the Lakers, you get a ton of Twitter threats, so it’s just not worth it."

He also added that even the slightest perceived Lakers diss can open the gates of trolling hell.

“There is more Twitter courage in Southern California than probably any other part of the world," Cuban said. “I could say ‘Kobe tied his shoe laces wrong’ and I’d probably get death threats on Twitter.”

Cuban bought the Mavericks in 2000. He's since turned the once-downtrodden team into one of the NBA's best franchises and a major Lakers rival in the Western Conference.

But he isn't the only victim of overzealous Lakers fans online -- not even the team's own players are exempt from harsh abuse on Twitter.

After failing to convert a potential game-winning shot earlier this month, star forward Pau Gasol was targeted by sports trolls who wished death upon him, threatened to beat him up and told him to return to his native Spain posthaste. Before that, the teenage son of former Lakers coach Mike Brown was reportedly threatened online after his dad's star-stacked team struggled early this NBA season.
