Based on a best-selling children's book, Cabret is about a 12-year old orphan who has to solve a mystery about a broken robot.

While the 3D camera technology that James Cameron pioneered in Avatar is really setting the bar for technical achievement in film, even films that have been converted to 3D using computers -- like Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans -- are proving to be big hits at the box office. In the last four months, no less than four 3D films have opened at number one. In fact, the 3D craze is even starting to take over previously released films; Titanic, for instance, is being prepped for 3D re-release.

On the consumer front, 3D television sets and Blu-ray players are heading to stores and select events, including last weekend's Masters golf tournament.

While many directors are flocking to the format or at least considering it, Scorsese represents one of the true auteurs to utilize the technology. Sony tentatively plans to release The Invention of Hugo Cabret in December 2011.
