It's undeniable that Maseratis are some of the most beautiful cars on the road, from the two-door GranTourismo to the Quattroporte long-body sedan. Now there's a new great Italian beauty in the family. It's called the Levante. As you can see from the images, it's an SUV.

The Levante picks up the brand's styling lineage and runs with it ... mostly up a mountain, which, funnily enough, is something you can do with this Maserati. The Levante introduces a new styling element for the Maserati brand: tapered headlights separated into two elements, with the upper headlight unit connected to the front grille.

And you'll be able to run up mountains in the Levante due to its standard Q4 all-wheel drive that has been designed for both on- and off-road performance. To ensure the beautiful body doesn't drag on any rocks during an off-road adventure, the SUV has been fitted with sophisticated electronic suspension with air springs -- think air bags instead of shocks and struts. That means the Levante will ride like a soft-but-stiff sports car and also trample off-road as well.

Although Maserati is holding off on all the specific technical details for the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, which kicks off in early March, it has said that the SUV will offer both gasoline and diesel engines -- all of which will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Of course, like all Maseratis, the Levante will be built in Turin, Italy. When production kicks into full swing, it will first go on sale this spring in Europe with later global rollouts planned for later in 2016.
