If you're unfamiliar with Turntable.fm, you may want to clear your schedule. The startup, which is still in beta, offers a series of user-created chatrooms complete with head-bobbing avatars. DJs (a.k.a. you and others) can play songs, vote on how “lame” or “awesome” those songs are, score points for picking good tunes, and chat with others in a sidebar. There are five DJ slots in every room. You can choose songs from a MediaNet-powered library or upload your own. Sadly, the site is no longer open to anyone outside the U.S., as Turntable has to comply with the terms of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Today, we'll have Mashable staff (including myself) on the decks in the Summer Fridays Room, spinning tracks alongside Gavin Friday, formerly of the Virgin Prunes, who recently released his first album in 16 years catholic, as well as his own iPhone app [iTunes link].
