Since 1996, the Academy of American Poets has dedicated the month of April to increasing awareness and appreciation for the impact poetry has had on our culture and lives. It is now embraced by classrooms, communities and publishers as one of the largest literary celebrations in the world.

Show off your skills by tweeting us a poem in 140 or fewer characters, and don't forget to play with form and tone; you can share a witty haiku or a serious free verse poem.
