Last week, we asked our Vine community to animate robots and machines in six-second clips.

We ran this challenge to go along with Alex Garland's latest feature film, Ex Machina, which we've selected for our next MashFlix event.

The science fiction thriller touches on the dawning era of artificial intelligence and advanced technology's effect on humankind. Mashable is hosting a free screening with Garland on April 8 at New York City's Wythe Hotel.

From cardboard DIYs to smart bots, we loved the #RobotsAndMachines Vines we saw. We'll be giving away promo codes to the digital soundtrack and signed Ex Machina posters to our featured participants.

1. New batteries for an old friend

2. Takeover

3. Vine comment bot

4. Woody the robot
