LOS ANGELES -- It's not an unexpected Star Wars crossover, but the next chapter in the Mass Effect series does head to a galaxy 2.5 million light years away from our own.

Mass Effect: Andromeda sends players off into deep space for a new adventure set in the Andromeda galaxy. BioWare's first look is just a tease, a gameplay-free cinematic that features familiar facets of the Mass Effect universe in new environments.

BioWare's Aaryn Flynn confirms that the character seen in the trailer is not the hero of the Andromeda story. The human hero -- who can be male or female in the game -- will get a proper introduction at a later date, but Flynn also notes that what happens in the teaser is significant (and also the subject of a later reveal).
