Eighteen years after handing him a Golden Globe for co-writing Good Will Hunting's screenplay, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has awarded Matt Damon a second statuette.

"I know how lucky I am, and how lucky I am to be doing this for a living," Damon said while accepting his award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for his starring role in The Martian -- adding, in a jokey tone, "I've made a lot of movies that people just didn't go see."

Damon also made sure to thank The Martian's director, Ridley Scott, and his wife, Luciana Barroso, "for, you know, everything."

Damon beat out Al Pacino (Danny Collins), Mark Ruffalo (Infinitely Polar Bear), Christian Bale (The Big Short), and Steve Carell (The Big Short).
