McDonald's isn't going to let Burger King hog the limelight for its questionable goth burgers.
Just a week ago, Burger King Japan announced it would be selling Kuro Diamond and Kuro Pearl burgers. That is, burgers with jet-black buns and accompanying blackened sauce and cheese (yum!).
Of course, this week McDonald's Japan is jumping on the bandwagon with its own black burger called the Squid Ink Burger, marketed just in time for Halloween.
Just as the name suggests, it is colored with actual squid ink. All natural.
Black burger purists may be saddened to learn, however, that the burger IRL is actually just a really dark shade of brown.

According to Rocket News, the burger is being sold for the price of 370 yen (US$3.40) and comes with two patties with fried onions and cheese.
McDonald's is no stranger to black burgers, though. It's hard to forget about McDonald's China's take on the black and white cookie with "Black and White Burgers." That was a limited time offer, and surprising to no one, was not entirely embraced by Chinese customers.
This time around, we can only suspect that McDonald's has perfected its black burger -- currently available at three branches in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district: Shinjuku Minamiguchi, Seibu Shinjuku Station and Shinjuku Oguard Nishi.
Happy early Halloween.
