Meals in glasses just hit rock bottom.
Sarah Spigelman Richter
We've seen over the top milkshakes, bloody marys topped with pizza and mimosas garnished with a luxurious lobster tail. Where do we draw the line with food in glasses? No one has been able to...until now.Mashable imagined what it would take for restaurant patrons to pass up this soggy brunch trend, once and for all. And then we photographed our creations. Warning: Do not scroll if you have a strong gag reflex.
This extravagant garnish trend started with bloody marys, which are traditionally garnished with celery sticks but in recent years have evolved to sport toppings of tiny cheeseburgers and entire fried chickens. Huh?Oh wait, we know what to blame: Instagram. The meteoric rise of social media makes any outrageous drink or meal instantly shareworthy. So don't assume restaurants are serving these creations up for their culinary creativity; it's a gimmick, folks. And ok, it makes us smile a bit. However, many of these dishes don't take sensory experiences beyond vision into account. Droopy chips and gluey cheese is a surefire way to gag during happy hour. This trend is all about form over function, which means its time in the limelight is limited.
