Meebo has officially launched its Firefox extension, which brings a high level of integration for the instant messaging tools into your browser, making it exceedingly social. We already caught wind of the Firefox extension late last week, when the service went live and the media leaked information about the new tool a bit early.

But Meebo has already gained 12,000 users in under a week. Not too shabby. Meebo's Firefox extension makes this its second "first," with its seamless user-to-user file sharing options having been launched last month. Aiming for more integration with every aspect of most popular online applications, from social networks to browsers, Meebo wants to be accessible no matter what you're doing on the web.
