MeetMoi, the mobile dating site, has raised $1.5 million in funding in its first round of financing. The funding was provided by Acadia Woods Partners.

MeetMoi is a service that operates in a similar manner to Dodgeball or Rabble, where you can find someone in your local proximity to meet up with you right now. But with MeetMoi, you can find a date, not just an existing friend. MeetMoi will search your geographical location for a person that meets your search criteria, and let you anonymously set up a date. Arrange for a place and time, and off you go. MeetMoi works on Cingular, Nextel, Boost, Sprint, T-Mobile, ALLTel and CellularOne networks.

The MeetMoi service brings up obvious security issues as its GPS tracking and service nature could allow for some unwanted behavior. But the technology and the concept are both far from new, they've just been put together in a somewhat new manner. As long as MeetMoi ensures the privacy of its users, the service could prove fun and impulsive for people on the go. While MeetMoi is only available in the states, it could also make a splash in the U.K. where mobile users are already utilizing similar services.
