Live streams on Meerkat are about to get a lot more exciting.

Some GoPro owners are now able to live stream video from their action cameras directly to the live streaming app, Meerkat announced Thursday.

Meerkat's update will support live streaming from GoPro's Hero 3 and Hero 4 cameras, the company confirmed to Mashable. The update, first reported by CNBC, is available now as a beta for GoPro's Hero 3, with support for the Hero 4 coming soon.

In a teaser video posted to Twitter Thursday, the live streaming app showed off the upcoming feature, which will be compatible with Meerkat's iOS app. The company says Android support is also in the works.

GoPro 3 users can start live streaming through the app now by pairing their camera to their phone, launching Meerkat and shaking their device, which will bring up the prompt to begin a live stream from their camera.

For Meerkat, integrating with GoPro is significant for a number of reasons. The app is still locked in a dead heat with Twitter-owned rival Periscope. The two are battling to become the dominant player in the still nascent live streaming space. Partnering with the biggest action camera maker on the market stands to increase Meerkat's visibility quite a bit. (Think: watching extreme sports live from your phone.)

The GoPro support would also mark the first time either Meerkat or its rival Periscope has been able to support live streams from third-party cameras.
