Meetic Launching Facebook Competitor in France

Meetic, the France-based online dating and chat service, is gearing up to launch a new social network called PeexMe, which will center around photo-sharing.

This type of social network goes directly after the major social networks, like MySpace, Facebook and Bebo, which keep their users coming back for media-sharing purposes. The target demographic is teens and young adults, which are the most savvy when it comes to sharing media in an Internet setting.

With SkyRock being the most popular social network in France, Meetic will have a time competing with its market dominance. It's also quite known that Facebook is growing rapidly in the European market, but has yet to steal much market share from SkyRock. With much activity going on with the Facebook.fr URL, it's speculated that Facebook will be moving in on country- or language-specific networks, which could effect both SkyRock and PeexMe as well. Nevertheless, Meetic still has a very strong presence in France.
