Men do more mobile shopping than women, according to new research.

A study by market research firm uSamp found that men have now surpassed women in making mobile purchases. Specifically, 45% of guys have shopped using a mobile device, compared with just 34% of females.

The survey revealed that a quarter of men and 15% of women do their mobile shopping while at work. Waiting for others also prompts mobile purchases. The study found 12% of females and 8% of males have shopped via their mobile device while in a waiting room.

"We recognize that mobile consumerism is on the rise, and it’s important for companies to learn where, why, and how their audiences are making their buying decisions," said Matt Dusig, co-founder and CEO of uSamp.

Men are significantly more likely than women to use their smartphone to buy electronics, movie and event tickets, food and drinks and office supplies, the research shows.

The study did find that a large chunk of both males and females are using their mobile devices to scan barcodes for more information on products or special promotions. While men are more likely to use their smartphones to comment on a purchase or write a review of a product, more women than men are using them to save money with mobile coupons.

Additional information can be found in the infographic below composed by uSamp. The study was based on surveys of 1,100 men and women.
